オーストラリア研修⑩

Yesterday, my host family and I went to Byron Bay. We couldn't go into the water because of the homestay company rules. Instead, we made sand castle and play on the beach. Making sand castle was very difficult, but fun as well. I felt like an elementary school student.
After that, we went to the house of host father near the lighthouse. We had a great tea time there. I heard that sunrise and sunset is beautiful, but I couldn't see because of the rain. If you are lucky, you can see whales!
After that, we went to the lighthouse road to see the view of Byron Bay, but it was cloudy because of rain. In the late evening, we drove back home. It was such an exiting journey. I really enjoined the trip to New South Wales.

昨日Byron Bay（バイロンベイ）に行ってきました。私たちはホームステイ会社の都合上、海には入れないので、近くで防波堤みたいなものを作っていました。（防波堤は英語でbreakwatersと言うそうです。waterをbreakするのでそのままですね。）砂が細かく、作るのが難しかったです。小学生のような気分になりました。
ホストファーザーの実家が高台にあるので、休憩をしました。 Byron Bayは夕焼け、日の出が綺麗だそうなのですが帰る時には雨が降っていたので視界が非常に悪くなっていました。場合によってはクジラが見えるそうです。その後、灯台(lighthouse)に行ったのですが、写真で見える通り天気が悪く、灯台には登りませんでした。しかしきれいな海が見れたので良かったです。 (余談ですが、英語と日本語で表現を変えられることってとても面白いです。伝わりやすさや感情の面でも適した語を使えた時は感動です。) （高校1年T. H.）

It has been a week since I arrived in Australia. Today I went to school as usual and took English classes, mixing with local high school students. During lunch break I made a Chinese friend and she introduced me to her friends. My English is not getting better, but I am communicating better.

オーストラリアへ来て1週間が経ちました。今日はいつものように学校へ行き英語の授業を受けて、現地の高校生に混ざって授業を受けました。昼休みに中国人の友達ができて、彼女は彼女の友達達に私を紹介してくれました。私は英語が上手になったわけではないけれど意思疎通が上手くなった気がします。（高校2年Y. K.）
