グローバル教育〔 地球的規模で考える 〕
On Monday September 4th from 15:45 to 17:45, we held the fifth debate meeting of the year.
First, all students listened to a report about the online summer camp from four of the camp participants. Their were comments were that
1. the strong teams spoke more than our debaters do, so let's try to say more.
2. the strong teams spoke smoothly and with confidence.
3. many teams used a kind of template where they started by talking about the status quo, then gave their idea, then spoke about the effects of the idea.
Regarding the first two points, our school's debaters will develop these with practice. For point three, referring to materials from the first semester and using ideas from them will help our debaters to develop their own strong debate patterns.
After the report, we started the day's debating. From the second semester, students will take part in two debates each session and should try to apply the skills explained and practiced in the first term. The first topic Fishing in the wild should be prohibited and fish should be farmed. (天然魚の漁獲は禁止し、魚は養殖すべきである。) The second was Economic growth should be given priority over environmental protection. (経済成長は環境保全より優先させるべきだ。 )
Students did well in the debates. Two things they did well were using the kind of template mentioned by the summer camp participants and trying POIs. The second point especially made many of the day's debates active and exciting.
We will have another meeting at the end of September, so this will be a very busy debating month. Until that meeting, good job everyone.
