PDA即興型英語ディベート

2026年度第4回即興型英語ディベート

On Wednesday June 3rd, the students took part in the fourth debate meeting of the year.

First, they practice more debate skills. They learned about clash points. These are the fundamental disagreements between the government and opposition teams. Then, they practiced predicting clash points while brainstorming for a debate. After this, they watched the first four speakers in a debate video to see if the ideas they had brainstormed were mentioned. Next, the students learned about summarizing the debate, which is the final speaker's role on each team. Especially, they learned about how the final speaker can use any clash points to help organize their summary and show their team's superiority. Then, from four options, they chose the best summary for the debate they just watched and discussed why it was best.

After practicing skills, students participated in their second debate with online judges. The motion was Animal experiment should be abolished. (動物実験を廃止すべきである。) Students debated actively and many teams demonstrated previously studied skills such as using mutliple supporting ideas for their points and using POIs to challenge the other team. Some teams also identified interesting clash points, for example, the value of human life vs the value of animal life, that their final speakers used in their summary speeches - well done!

With today's practice finished, students have now looked at all three speakers and their main roles: presenting ideas, rebutting, and summarizing. Next time, we will start looking in more detail at some of these and other skills to help debate successfully.

Good job, everyone!
