PDAオンライン夏合宿2023
On August 4th and 5th, five of our debate students took part in a two-day online debate camp. Four of the students were high school second graders who had taken part in our school's PDA activities last year. As such, they decided to challenge themselves and joined the regular division instead of the beginner division during the camp. The other participant, one of our high school first graders, formed a team with students from other schools and took part in the beginner division.
On the first day, they took part in three practice debates and one preliminary round debate. Then on the second day, they took part in two more preliminary round debates, and watch a lecture about the topic in one of them: teaching patriotism in compulsory education. Unfortunately, our members did not win enough debates to take part in the semi finals, but they watched them and reflected on their experiences over the two days. In particular, the experienced members said it was a valuable experience to have debated against very high level teams from around Japan. Hopefully, they will use that experience at the national contest in the winter.
