Moin!
December is coming soon, the month I have been waiting for. Since the 25th of November, the Christmas market has been open in Oldenburg. I went there with my friends, and we had a great time. We drank Punsch, a traditional warm Christmas drink. Christmas is a significant event in Germany, so I am excited to experience the festive season here.
Last week, I went to the city centre with my friends to buy small Christmas presents for Wichteln. Wichteln is like a secret gift exchange. Everyone draws a name and prepares a present for the person they pick. Starting on the first of December, one student will receive a present each day until the end of the school term.
I also see a lot of Advent calendars in many shops. There are many kinds, including chocolate calendars, tea calendars, cosmetic ones and even Lego Advent calendars. One of my friends also explained the tradition of the Adventskranz to me. The Adventskranz consists of a decorated evergreen wreath with four candles. Families light one candle on each of the four Sundays before Christmas.
In one week, I will move to my next host family. I am looking forward to experiencing a new environment and getting to know them.
I hope December will be an amazing month for me and for you too!
Ciao!
