ニュージーランド中期留学(中間レポート)
Kia Ora!! Half of my studying abroad has passed. I feel so fast. This time, I'd like to share my experience about my homestay.
My host family consists of three people: my host mother, my host sister, and me. Our house isn't big, but it's very cozy. We also have a dog who always looks fun.
Now, let me introduce some differences from Japan. In New Zealand, we are expected to handle our own housework. For example, I often clear my dishes, do the laundry, and prepare my lunch. I was surprised to hear that my host sister has been doing so since she was six years old!
Dinner is usually served by my host family. It is "one-plate" meal where the main dish, vegetables, rice, or noodles are all served together. There are usually no side dishes like soup or salad, so I make them myself if I need them. Also, we don't have a bathtub, just a shower. The shower is in the same room as the toilet and the sink. Because of this, if someone is showering, I have to use another toilet.
I usually take a shower around 8 PM after dinner, then I spend time in my room studying or writing in my diary. After 10 PM, the lights are turned off, the doors are locked, and the whole house becomes very quiet. I think it depends on the family, but these are the main differences I've noticed compared to Japan. I want to keep doing my best for the remaining month!
