留学レポート

ニュージーランド中期留学(帰国後レポート)

Kia Ora!

It's been two days since my study abroad program, which started at the end of January, came to an end.

Looking back on these past two months, the first word that comes to mind is "fun." To be honest, there were many tough moments, and I felt nervous somewhere in my heart every day. I especially remember how hard the first week was. Everything was so unfamiliar, and I felt the pressure of having to manage everything on my own.

However, after about three weeks, I started taking more initiative, and school became more enjoyable. Seeing my own growth gave me a lot of courage. The most memorable event of my time abroad was the "Swimming Sports Day." The reason is that I felt it was the day I truly bonded with my friends. In this event, the whole school went to a reserved pool to watch races or go for a swim. I didn't participate in competitive races, but I spent time swimming with my friends, and that's when I felt our friendship really deepened. Making friends with local students is so difficult. I struggled to find topics to talk about, and I didn't know what they would find funny. But as we kept talking and I finally heard laughter mixed in our conversation, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment. Now, we're close enough to have phone calls on the weekends, and we even hung out together on my last day.

Through this experience, I was able to interact with people from various backgrounds, which broadened my perspective and sparked my interest in many different countries. I especially feel like I want to visit the home countries of the friends I made. Also, I developed skills that are hard to gain just by living my normal life in Japan, such as the ability to make my own decisions and self-management. I want to take all the strength, courage, and experience I gained in New Zealand and make the most of them in my future life.
